INTERESTED IN COMPETITIVE CLIMBING? TEAM G1 TRYOUTS ARE HERE!!

During tryouts, climbers will showcase their skills on boulders and roped climbs while having fun and getting to know our coaching staff!

Details:

  • Registration opens Monday, July 31st and is required for participation at Team Tryouts.
  • Registration closes 11:59pm Thursday, Aug. 24. Late registrants please email headcoach@g1climbing.com
  • Make-up tryout date coming soon. Please email headcoach@g1climbing.com if you can not attend on August 26th. 
  • Team placements will be communicated by August 29th.

Categories by birth year:

  • MYD/FYD – 2013 or later
  • MYC/FYC – 2011 or 2012
  • MYB/FYB – 2009 or 2010
  • MYA/FYA – 2007 or 2008
  • MJR/FJR – 2005 or 2006 

Our Mission

Team G1 exists to create passionate, life-long climbers that will be excellent representatives of our sport, our climbing team, and themselves. Our vehicle for personal transformation is competitive climbing, and the adversity, challenge, discipline and mental toughness associated with deliberate practice and competition will power our athletes to become strong human beings.

G1’s Competitive Youth Programs are designed specifically for competition through USA Climbing. Our teams practice and train for participation in USA Climbing’s Sport & Speed and Bouldering competitions.

Varsity Team – 4:45pm – 7:45pm Monday, Tuesday, Thursday.

  • Children on the Varsity team will have a strong desire to compete in USA Climbing events.
  • Previous climbing experience is required.
  • Athletes are required to compete in at least one USA Climbing local competition per season.
  • Athletes are expected to attempt to qualify for and compete in USA Climbing’s Regional Championship event each season. If athletes qualify for Divisionals and Nationals, they are expected to attend.
  • Athletes will meet for three 3-hour practices per week.

JV Team – 4:45pm – 7:45pm Monday &Wednesday.

  • Children on the JV team will have an interest in competing in USA Climbing events.
  • Previous climbing experience is required.
  • Athletes are expected to compete in at least one USA Climbing local competition per season.
  • Athletes will meet for two 3-hour practices per week.

Prep Team – 4:45pm – 6:45pm Tuesday &Friday.

  • Children on the Prep team should have an interest in competing in USA Climbing events.
  • Previous climbing experience is required.
  • Athletes are required to compete in one or more USA Climbing local competitions per season.
  • Athletes will meet for two 2-hour practices per week.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes! Anyone who is interested in climbing with Team G1 for the 2023-2024 season needs to attend tryouts.
Invitations will be sent to parents by August 29th at the latest.
Practices will begin Tuesday, September 5th.
Please email headcoach@g1climbing.com if your climber has a conflict on the 26th.
Team G1 is a competitive team, which means competitions are required for participation on the team. If your climber is not interested in competitions, we recommend exploring our Foundations program!
Parents do need to be available for the first 20-30 minutes of tryouts to meet the coaching staff and receive their climber’s informational packet. After that, feel free to come and go throughout the day.
The competition season for the fall runs from October 15th through mid-December. Once your climber is on a team, you will receive the full competition schedule and more information about competitions.
The USAC category system is based on birth year. Below is the current breakdown;
USAC Age Categories
Youth D: Born 2013 or later
Youth C: Born 2011 or 2012
Youth B: Born 2009 or 2010
Youth A: Born 2007 or 2008
Junior: Born 2005 or 2006
